Knitting Funk
I think I'm in my first official knitting funk. Its not that I don't want to knit--I'm just not in love with any of my projects. I ripped out my clover lace wrap for fear of the size problem and not having enough yarn. I'm going to make another lacy cardigan out of the yarn but I've started it about four times and just cant find a pattern that really makes my heart twitter. I tried one that was going pretty well but then, of course, I screwed up and had to rip it out. I think I'll try it again after a trial separation period. Maybe the yarn will finally learn who's boss and behave accordingly.
I'm also considering ripping rogue and doing something different with the yarn. This is probably the pattern I'm working on that I love best but I'm afraid I'm also a skien or so short there as well. I could leave off the pocket and skimp in a couple of other areas (like the facing) but I just hate to alter it--I really want the pocket--its one of the things that I love about the pattern. I also want to incorporate claudia's cardiganization and that will also require a little bit more yarn.
I've started a few other projects here and there--I always have a sock going and I started a second ruffles (green mohair, baby). I like them both but I have this drive to make a sweater and its just not coming together. Maybe I need to shift gears and work on a different sweater pattern--I did pick up last minute knitted gifts the other day and I love the simplicity of the hourglass sweater--I could find some cotton blend to do that in--the pattern looks simple enough and maybe that would get me back in the groove. It just seems like I've been knitting now for a while and I've only finished two sweaters, one of which is bulky and plain and the other (ribby) was so warm I couldnt wear it, so I gave it to my mom.
I've also been a little distracted lately--have you noticed--ITS SPRING!!! spring is one of my favorite times of year because I get to get my garden going--my knitting books that usually reside on my coffee table have been pushed aside in favor of my half a dozen gardening books and my mail order catalogs. This will be the first year I'm really able to do a lot in the flower beds and garden--the last two summers were kind of bust because (a) we moved in a little late in the season so I didn't have any prep time and (b) I haven't been working until now so we didn't really have the extra money to invest in landscaping but those things aren't really factors this year so I'm really excited about the yard. I've already started all my seedlings inside and the countdown has begun...
Anyway...I'm going to maybe do some online yarn shopping and head off to the bookstore today in search of Steph's book...
