Life

Sometimes, life just totally gets in the way of important things...like blogging and wasting time on ravelry. I'll spare you the details--nothing was serious, just a string of minor things that kept me away from the computer for a while. Obviously, the contest will also be put off a bit, until I can really root through the stash and find some goodies...

At least those things didnt keep me away from my knitting bag!

I finished the Classy Baby Blanket and finally got an FO shot of it (my apologies to munch for the use of the flash...I thought it was off...but at least you can see the colors here)

Munch's New Blankie!

This was a super fun knit. I thought I would want to poke my own eyes out with my needles by the end of all that stockinette but it was actually really pleasant. Maybe I was just coming down off the cabling fiasco of Rogue though. The only change I made to the pattern was to put a few seed stitch stiches at the edges as a border to help prevent curling. The original pattern doesnt call for this but I think it helped. The stripes kept it interesting and I'm kind of itching to make another blanket.

So itchy, in fact, I started a log cabin blanket for munch out of all the odds and end balls of worsted weight I have laying around. I'll spare you the picture since I haven't even completed a full two rounds yet...

Since finishing the blankie for munch, I cast on for the Green Moss Shawl by Sharon Miller. I needed a little something for an upcoming wedding and I thought this would be perfect! I decided against the kidsilk haze called for in the pattern since it might be a little hot for a may wedding--instead I used jaggerspun wool silk, which is so pleasant to work with.

Right now, of course, it looks like a dishrag:

Green Moss Shawl

but it has promise of someday being more:

Shawl Detail

I'm doing the larger version, so I think I'm roughly halfway through. Its flying by though--I think I might finish this week or early next week.

In searching for this pattern to knit, I pulled out all my lace books and hunted through the stash which of course left me hungering for more lace...finer lace...cobwebby lace. I pulled some lacis cobweb out of the stash and started swatching...

Unst Swatches

and I think I'm hooked. I ordered a variety of cobweb weight yarn as well as the Princess Shawl pattern. I think I'm going to try my hand at a simpler fine lace shawl before I jump in with the Princess but I can barely wait to finish the Green Moss shawl to cast on for something super lacey!!

Busy Busy

Whew. I've been busy lately getting a bunch of things done lately... which has been made even more difficult by the lack of long munchkin naps around here. I try to cram all my daily activities into those two hours but the last few days, I've been lucky to get an hour out of her.

I did manage to get a few rovings dyed up:

Like many others out there, I'm taking the big plunge and starting up an etsy shop. I've been really wanting to play around with color theory lately and with the new drum carder sitting around, I've been carding up a ton of fiber that I'll never have enough time to spin up myself. I'll be selling rovings, batts, handspun yarn and maybe a few other things. I still have a few other things to do in preparation though, so things won't start showing up in the shop for a few more days!

Also--get ready! This is my 199th post, so next post will be a contest! I'll be rooting through the stash to find some goodies as prizes. There will be sock yarn, roving (dyed by me!) and a few batts. Check back later in the week!

Mommy Guilt.

Its been getting cold (well, cold for texas, which isn't really that cold) here lately and I've been feeling major guilt that Munchkin doesnt have a handknit baby blanket. Isnt that usually standard issue for the child of a knitter? She had one but it has long since been outgrown....so...time for a new one:

munch's blanket

This has been eating up all of my knitting attention lately and I'm glad to say, its nearly half done. Its been fun though--its nice to knit boring stockinette every once in a while.

I know the orange stripe looks a little out of place...but it will make sense when finished. The blanket is the Morehouse Merino Classy Baby Blanket. Its soft and delicious! I'm kind of jealous....but it would be outrageously boring to knit a large one for myself.... maybe someday though!
